Welcome to www.alphaphibeta.org -- the official website of the Alpha Phi Beta Alumni Association (APBAA). This maiden edition of our website is a dream come true. In the minds of brods and in the works for sometime now, the website presents relevant information on the Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity University of the Philippines. The website is planned to contain both static and dynamic information. However, in its first edition, more of the former can be found; but succeeding editions will feature a dynamic "Directory of Alphans" and a bulletin board/chat room, which will require a password. By no means complete, our website continues to be a work-in-progress. Brods are therefore requested to make comments and suggestions for its improvement as well as to provide news and information for its continuous update.

The APBAA monthly fellowship meetings will now take place every 3rd Friday of the month from 6:00 p.m. at the Ilang-Ilang Room, Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan. Please mark in your calendars the following schedule of the fellowship meetings for the rest of 2003:
March 21 August 15
April 18 September 19
May 18 October 17
June 20 November 21
July 18 December 19

The APBAA Board of Directors and Officers also meets every 3rd Friday of the month, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Club Filipino, preceding the monthly fellowship meeting.

We are publishing an updated Directory Book. If the 1991 Directory is referred to as the "black book", then we will call this new one the "gold book", according to LC Rene Valdecantos. Every Alphan is requested to complete and submit his Directory Information Sheet (which can be found in the Directory page of this website and also included in the maiden issue of our newsletter "The Alphan Chronicle"). Deadline: March 31, 2003.

The next issue of the now eagerly awaited "The Alphan Chronicle" comes out in April. Contributions (such as articles, photos, announcements, greetings, news items, whereabout of brods, etc.) from Brods are most welcome. Please send these directly, by email attachment, to Brod Vic de Jesus using his email address: ginesdemafra@yahoo.com

We are adopting a Fraternity Hymn. Please send your comments and suggestions to LC Rene Valdecantos.

With a view to formulate concrete directions for the APBAA, a Seminar/Workshop on our Mission, Vision & Values will be held on 16 March 2003. A whole day event, the participants will include the Directors, Sectoral Representatives, Officers and Committee Chairmen of our Alumni Association. A charming lady facilitator (obviously not an Alphan) will assist in the conduct of the workshop. Other interested Brods are requested to contact Brod Sani Yuzon.

Congratulations to Brod Sonny Alvarez who was recently appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Communities. As the President's alter-ego in this very important assignment, Brod Sonny's functions, in his view, are to assist, to support and to facilitate in the formulation and implementation of policies, plans and programmes for the benefit of overseas Filipinos, in particular, and the country, in general.

Congratulations to Brod George Howard on his recent election as District Governor of the Rotary International District 3780 (covering 95 Rotary Clubs) for the period July 2004 to June 2005. These dates are significant because the Rotary is celebrating its Centennial during this period.

Brod Bani Aguirre '63 has been nominated by the APBAA as a candidate for the Board of Directors of the UP Alumni Association (UPAA). Brod Bani is the Chairman of our Information & Publication Committee and leads the team preparing our newsletter and this website. He was a recipient of the Presidential "Pamana" Award given to Overseas Filipinos (2000) and was one of the ten Distinguished Alumnus of the UP College of Business Administration (2002). Let us give Brod Bani all the support that he needs to make it to the UPAA Board.

Brod Joe Poe Jr., was also an awardee for the ten Distinguished Alumnus of the UP College of Business Administration (2002) for his pioneering efforts in professionalizing the management of the country's security agency industry.

Brods are encourage to pay their annual membership fee of PHP 1,000 to the APBAA Secretariat as soon as possible. Out of this amount, PHP 200 will be set aside for the APBAA Trust Fund.

The egroup http://groups.yahoo.com/group/alpha_phi_beta continues to be very active and getting stronger. Started by Brod Vince Rallon in 1997, the egroup keeps the brods in touch with each other wherever they are - in the US, Japan, Kuwait, in the Philippines, and elsewhere,-- exchanging information, discussing big and small issues, sharing jokes, gossiping, etc. but, importantly, keeping our fraternal bonds much alive. Maintained by a small group of tech-savvy brods under the stewardship of Brod Nick Pelayo, the latest report is that the number of brods who belong to the egroup has now reached 186. How to subscribe to the egroup? A recommendation from a brod who belongs to the egroup would be helpful.

Finally, the preparation of this website is a collective effort - by, of, and for the Alphans. With full support from the APBAA Board and under the leadership of LC Rene Valdecantos, a special website development team was formed, early this year, coordinated by Brods Bani Aguirre and Vic de Jesus. The team consists of Brods Eric Lumague (web designer), Alan Sumabat & Jules Hernandez (IT experts), Raul Pagtalunan, Manny Abad, Ariel Arceo, Dominic Solis, Win Limwan. Valuable advice and inputs were provided by Cebu-based Brod Vince Rallon and Brods overseas such as Nick Pelayo, Rudy Pante, Ed Malaya and Mario Zinampan. Brods TJ Isla, Ogie Fermo, George Keyser, Raul Villanueva, Jo Castigador, Armand Pan and others also gave inputs and moral support. We are specially thankful to Jules Hernandez and Batch '90 for sponsoring the registration of our domain name www.alphaphibeta.org and for hosting our website for at least a year. To all of you, maraming salamat po.
