Analysis on the Philippine Economy and Fiscal Policy

The Alphan Thought Leaders Series is a 4-week webinar series on key fields of study relevant to addressing the effects and issues brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. These topics are economics and taxation, the practice of law, freedom of expression, and nationalism and civic involvement. The goal of the webinar series is to provide much needed insights on how professionals in these fields can adapt to the new normal during and after the pandemic.
The first installment of the webinar series is entitled “Analysis on the Philippine Economy and Fiscal Policy.” Our esteemed speakers are as follow:
Dr. Benjamin Diokno is the current Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Prior to his appointment as BSP Governor, he served as Budget Secretary from 2016 to 2019. His policy expertise and research contribution extend to various areas of public economics, such as structure and scope of government, tax policies and reforms, public expenditure management analysis, fiscal decentralization, national budget and public debt. He has extensive experience in implementing reforms at the public sector, having also served as Budget Undersecretary from 1986 to 1991 and Budget Secretary from 1998 to 2001.
Atty. Jethro Sabariaga is currently the Regional Director of Revenue Region No. 6, City of Manila. Prior to his assignment in Manila, he was the Regional Director of Revenue Regions No. 4 (Pampanga) and No. 9B (LaQueMar). He has also served as the Chief of Staff of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue for Legal Matters. In his several years of service with the BIR, he has filed various complaints against taxpayers for tax evasion as well as advocated for increased voluntary tax compliance.
Mr. Jan Michael Reyes is the current Assurance Partner of Isla Lipana & Co., one of the leading audit, tax, and consultancy firms in the Philippines and a member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited (PwC IL). He has more than 18 years of solid assurance experience in telecommunication, manufacturing and trading, entertainment and media, healthcare, transportation, logistics and technology. His experience also includes handling various financial due diligence reviews and initial public offerings (IPOs).
Ms. Dorelene Villanueva Dimaunahan, our event moderator, is an entrepreneur, educator, host, and author. She serves as a business coach and mentor of small and medium enterprises and social enterprises. She also regularly conducts trainings & workshops for various medium and large-scale companies. Ms. Dimaunahan is the Founder of Dear Dore and the Editor-in-Chief of COVID Diaries.
